Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient healthcare discipline that originated more than 4,000 years ago.  Central to this system of medicine is correcting the balance of Qi (“chi”).  Acupuncture is used effectively to relieve the discomfort associated with many Western medical conditions and in the treatment, as well as prevention, of disease.

Qi is considered to be the vital force of life which flows through the body. It influences all life activities and helps maintain the healthy operation of the organism. When Qi fails to move freely, the result is physical, emotional or spiritual disharmony with accompanying symptoms.

Acupuncture is performed by inserting ultra thin, pre-sterilized, disposable needles into specific points on the body.  There is usually little or no sensation upon insertion but later tingling or mild pressure may develop at the site or elsewhere. This indicates the presence of Qi.   Patients usually enter a state of deep relaxation during the 10 to 30 minutes that the needles are in place.
